My sophomores continue to plow through the Sermon On The Mount. We are tackling the difficult issues that Jesus confronts us with, such as anger and lust. In the next day or so, we will delve into another barrier for many, that of forgiveness. Read what Jesus says here in Matthew 6, verse 14 and 15:
"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
I came across the following link on NFL star, Warrick Dunn, on the ESPN website. A running back for the Tampa Bay Bucs, Dunn is one of the really good guys in professional sports. As a teenager, his mother- a policewoman- was murdered. In the quest to find peace in his world, Dunn visited the Louisiana prison where the man convicted of this crime resides. The following link contains a video of Dunn is his journey of forgiveness and a short, well-written article as an accompaniment. It is worth the few minutes to watch and read, especially for any of us who maintain any sort of bitterness against another. If Warrick Dunn can forgive the murderer of his mom, surely I can forgive the small slights that we all run up against.
