Blended Family

One night, as we were having a devotional time, the children were told that another facility was closing and those youngsters would be moving in. It was a shock as far as I could tell. The following is an e-mail from July 18 and the pictures show the story of the new kids arriving.

Good afternoon! The big news is that yesterday, eighteen youngsters moved here from another orphanage that was run by believers. That location closed and we absorbed the remaining children. Some of the kids here were apprehensive, as you might guess, having strangers move into their home. The eighteen are mostly boys (16 of 18) and somewhat older. The children here have been mostly girls so this really changed the demographics. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for the kids moving here. I do not know if they had advanced notice but they brought what they had, which isn't much. The merger seems to be going well. Our director laid down the law and I think they got the point. The new kids seem well behaved and the kids here have reached out to them in kindness. Doubling the size of your current population in one day is sure to cause some residual problems but I think the director is handling it well. One thing I noticed is that the kids from the other place seemed lost when we had a devotional last night. They did not know any of the songs and they could not recite THE LORD'S PRAYER with our kids. On the other hand, they were very attentive, listening in our morning Bible class which centered on how we know who the disciples are according to Jesus in John 13:34-35. Please pray that this combination of children will continue to progress and that our Bible classes continue to be effective as I lay a groundwork for living as a Christian. Lavender says HI!
God bless,
Steve
