Tuesday Update On Dad

Dad's situation took a turn for the worse today. Complications in his heart are requiring open heart surgery to replace a valve where the infection has attacked. The surgery is very difficult due to Dad's age, his stroke, and the infection. Scott thinks that the bright spot is, assuming the procedure is successful, the heart infection will be taken care of. Dad seems to be aware of the gravity of the situation; apparently, the surgeon was very straight forward with him. He will face a week in ICU followed by 4-5 weeks in a nursing home. I was able to spend quite a bit of time talking to Uncle Monroe and Aunt Julia (Hawley) and Aunt Jerry and Uncle Jack (McNutt) and was touched by their words. Dave and Scott (and possible Sally and Karen) will drive to St. Louis and I will be flying. The date for the operation will be Thursday or Friday. Please keep Dad- and all of us- in your prayers. You have no idea how much your kindnesses have meant to us.
God bless,
Steve

In the good news department, Meagan e-mailed me today from Zambia and she has named one of the abandoned babies at the orphanage Steve. I have another namesake!
