My five classes this week finished studying the seven I AM statements Jesus made in the Gospel of John. If you aren't familiar with them, here they are!
I am the bread of life.
I am the true vine.
I am the good shepherd.
I am the gate for the sheep.
I am the light of the world.
I am the resurrection and the life.
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
I am the true vine.
I am the good shepherd.
I am the gate for the sheep.
I am the light of the world.
I am the resurrection and the life.
I am the way, the truth, and the life.
Over the years, I always give my students the assignment of coming up with their own I AM statements which would define where they are in life, even if that definition might be lost on others. Tonight, I am posting some of them from this years' classes, all from high school girls. (In coming days, I will share some from boys.) They are very honest and all are used with permission.
I am the girl who wants to be loved for her personality.
I am the daughter with a lot of pressure put on her.
I am the girl who always seeks adventure.
I am the girl who feels she will never find true love.
I am the girl who pushes herself past exhaustion just to prove a point.
I am the girl who is working to better herself.
I am the girl who wishes to love herself more.
I am the girl who knows she will be alone for a long time.
I am the girl who saw the coming events of a divorce.
I am the girl who is constantly let down by boys.
I am the girl struggling with how she sees herself and loving who she is.
I am the girl who determines her worth by how well she plays.
I am the girl who seeks validation from others.
I am the girl who gets attached too easily.
I am the girl who overwhelms herself.
I am the girl who has dreams bigger than she is.
I am the girl who is smarter than everyone thinks.
I am the girl who can sleep easily wherever she is.
I am the girl who loves mint chocolate.
I am the girl who everyone refers to as innocent.
I am the girl who wants to make her parents proud.
I am the girl who hates feeling vulnerable.
I am the girl who took the chance and succeeded.
I am the girl with too many dreams.
I am the girl who can't wait for the future!
I am the girl who wants friends who believe in me.
I am the daughter of extroverted parents.
I am the girl wanting peace within her life.
I am the girl who is mentally exhausted.
I am the girl who is stretched paper thin by school.
I am the girl who doesn't like too much attention.
I am the girl who always wants to look okay.
God bless,
Steve (I am the lucky guy who gets to teach these young ladies!)
