I AM STATEMENTS, 2021: Episode II

My five classes last week finished studying the seven I AM statements Jesus made in the Gospel of John. If you aren't familiar with them, here they are!

I am the bread of life.
I am the true vine.
I am the good shepherd.
I am the gate for the sheep.
I am the light of the world.
I am the resurrection and the life.
I am the way, the truth, and the life.

Over the years, I always give my students the assignment of coming up with their own I AM statements which would define where they are in life, even if that definition might be lost on others. Tonight, I am posting some of them from this years' classes, all from high school boys. (In coming days, I will share some more.) They are very honest and all are used with permission.

I am the boy who misses his country.
I am boy who is not satisfied with what he achieves.
I am the boy who disappoints himself.
I am the boy who notices what people don't think he would notice.
I am the boy who dislikes some of his friends.
I am the boy who can't ever fight back.
I am the boy who is always wrong even when he is right.
I am the boy who can't get out of being a slob.
I am the boy who cries easily.
I am the boy who closes opportunities by obscuring himself in one friend circle.
I am the boy who has secret characteristics.
I am the boy who can keep secrets.
I am the boy who can show empathy.
I am the boy who longs to live in a state of perpetual happiness.
I am the ordinary boy who drives to be remarkable.
I am the boy who doesn't understand how he gets good grades.
I am the boy who thinks about every single thing.
And finally,
I am the boy who can't think of any more I AM Statements!

God bless,
Steve
