Thorn In The Flesh (Dave Hawley)

Good evening! For the next thirty days, I will be on a mission trip to Vietnam. During that time, I will have new blogs each night from guest authors! (Also, on many nights, I will post pictures from my trip here!) For the next three evenings, my spot will be filled by my brother, Dave, who incidentally is the nation's winningest high school tennis coach and in the past year was inducted into four Hall of Fames! Please keep me in your prayers!

In Second Corinthians 12:7, Paul references “ having a thorn in the flesh”, which biblical scholars have wrestled with for years... what was it exactly?
I don’t know, either ... but I DO KNOW that a REAL thorn in your flesh is no easy matter. Three years ago, I managed to get a thorn in my thumb when cutting some bushes and it IMMEDIATELY took over my being. I’m no fan of extra pain, so I avoided any direct attempt to get it out because... you know.. it would hurt🤪👍!
So for the next two months, I was never far away from being reminded of that tiniest little morsel of discomfort... every bump, every twist was painful. And yet the other 200 plus pounds of me were fine... but in the background as that one tiny digit dominated me.
Maybe that’s the way our lives actually are... we can get a pretty good handle on most things but it’s that ONE thing that dominates our spiritual landscape.  Like Paul, who pleaded with God to remove the thorn, a dialogue with God about how best to deal with our thorn is a great starting place.

Blessings.

God bless,
Steve
