The Birth (Dr. Robert Farrar)

Though we don’t know the date of his birth, it is wonderful that we can set aside a time each year to celebrate His birth. And, in fact, the prophet Isaiah in foretelling about Christ said, His name shall be called wonderful” (Isaiah 9:6). Let’s note three wonders of Christmas.

First, there is the wonder of HIS BIRTH. Christ being born of a virgin had been foretold for centuries. To Micah God even revealed the name of the town in which he was to be born.. Thus, with the guidance of the Jewish scholars the wise men from the East followed the star to the town of Bethlehem.

Second, there is the wonder of HIS CONDESCENSION. To appreciate what this actually means, we have to imagine what heaven is like, and the exalted position Jesus held, and compare it to the world into which Jesus came, and the treatment He received.

And third, there is the wonder of HIS SAVING POWER. “He will save His people from their sins,” (Mt. 1:21) was the message of the angel to Joseph. This is the great wonder of Christmas: through His blood we find forgiveness and cleansing.

Thank God for the wonders of Christmas.
God bless,
Steve
