Dad is out of ICU! Late last night- about 9:00 PM- he was moved into a regular room after being in the heart intensive care since his valve replacement eleven days ago. Karis said it was hard for Dad because they woke him up and then he had to sit for almost an hour in the wheel chair. He was in much better spirits today and actually started back on physical therapy! He has a roommate which is good for him socially. I spoke to him for several minutes this evening. His speaking was not very clear but Karis said he was much better early in the day before he became exhausted. I can't say enough about the great job Karis is doing. She is taking on a totally new role and handling it amazingly well. She also spent a week with Dad right after his stroke back in August and this has helped bond their relationship. Karis is also eating some meals with Nita, our folks' next door neighbor. Nita lost her beloved husband, Orville, about a month ago so it is a blessing for both of them. I think Nita knew Mom even before Dad did so she has a terrific history with our family!
