SOME DAYS ARE DIAMONDS, SOME DAYS ARE STONE (Dave Hawley)

My blog tonight is from the pen of Dave Hawley, my brother and the all-time winningest US high school tennis coach! Pray for me in Vietnam as I seek to do the Lord's will.

It's been a rough three months :

When we live on this earth , we expect to have a mixture of the good and the bad, in terms of things that happen to us, and I believe we generally adjust to that equation.

But there are seasons where it seems to me that the bad outweighs the good…. Or that is my perception. And when that happens, I tend to be introspective about WHY that is. The truth is…while I DO think we bring bad days upon ourselves on occasion, some days it’s just  “ what it is”….

The last three months have included an abnormal amount of tough circumstances for people I love. The mother of three of my tennis players, who used to play for me herself, discovered  she has cancer… she is 44.  Then one of my assistant coaches, who ALSO played for me, discovered she has lung cancer. She has never smoked, and is 46. Then last week, one of our parents, the mom of a 7th grade student and tennis player, passed away from… you guessed it… cancer. I’m telling you, it has been tough.

John Denver had a great song called SOME DAYS ARE DIAMONDS , SOME DAYS ARE STONE, that is not really spiritual but, to me has room for spiritual application. In the song there is no attempt at resolution … just facts. But WE as Christ followers DO have weapons for the “stone” days… the love and comfort of a God who loves us and a savior who died for us. Days will be rough but our hope is in the Lord!
