Good evening! For the next 11 days, I will be on a mission trip to Vietnam. During that time, I will have new blogs each night from guest authors! (Also, on many nights, I will post pictures from my trip here!) For the next 26 evenings, my spot will be filled by my dear sister in Christ, Trina Agee Cornell! Trina and I went through many mission trips together and I have been a guest in Trina's and her husband, Bob's home. Please keep me in your prayers!
Power of Positivity #8
I enjoy communicating with my family and friends through social media – especially Facebook. I follow a number of people and organizations that focus their efforts on spreading positivity to the masses. I love reading posts from Proverbs 31 Ministries, tobymac, Lysa TerKeurst (the founder of Proverbs 31 Ministries) – and Power of Positivity. I came across this organization through a friend of mine – I noticed that she shared posts from them on a regular basis, and I decided I would “like” the page and check it out for myself. Power of Positivity has spoken to me on a number of levels – the Lord allows just the right one to cross my path when it is most needed. I wanted to focus this series of blog posts on the posts that have resonated with me – and the lessons that I have learned from them.
“You may see me struggle, but you’ll never see me quit.”
The struggle is real – this world is a tough place to live. We are bombarded by a number of different things – from notifications on our phones, to emails, to social media, to television. All of these outlets have a way of getting into our minds – and causing us to think we are not enough. We measure ourselves against our friends and family members that seem to “have it all together” – when in all honesty, we do not know half of the story. A recent news piece I saw on CBS News talked to five teenagers, ranging from ages 12-18, about their Instagram accounts. Instagram is talking about taking the “likes” portion off of posts that people make, citing that it currently lowers self-esteem. These teenagers balked at this idea – they post pictures on Instagram, purely for the “likes”. They explained that they take a minimum of 100 photos in order to get that “one good shot” that they can post on Instagram. Once again, we do not know half of the story – for so many teens these days, image is everything. The outward appearance is everything.
We all have our own battles we have to face – the struggle is real. Comparison is truly the thief of joy – we have to stop comparing ourselves to others, and we need to be confident in who we are in Christ. He is the only opinion that matters in the long run – and He already loves you just as you are. He loves us unconditionally – He knows everything about us, and He still finds a way to love us in our messes. With this in mind, we can never give up – we can never give in – we can never quit. Satan is out to get us – but we have the Lord on our side. He will never quit on us – so we cannot quit on Him.
