Good evening! For the next 24 days, I will be on a mission trip to Vietnam. During that time, I will have new blogs each night from guest authors! (Also, on many nights, I will post pictures from my trip here!) For the next 26 evenings, my spot will be filled by my dear sister in Christ, Trina Agee Cornell! Trina and I went through many mission trips together and I have been a guest in Trina's and her husband, Bob's home. Please keep me in your prayers!
Question #28
I spent an afternoon at Barnes and Noble a few months ago –
this is a place where I could spend hours upon hours. As a reading specialist by trade – and a
reader by nature – it makes sense. On
this particular trip, I found a book, tucked away with the journals in their
display, called 3,000 Questions About Me.
I opened it and started thumbing through – and I have to admit, I was
quite intrigued. I started looking
through the questions, thinking about what my responses would be. I knew I just had to get it – the book sat at
my house for a month, collecting dust. I
finally pulled it out and decided to answer one page of questions a day. 3,000 questions can be overwhelming – but how
do you eat an elephant? One bite at a
time! As I answer my page of questions each day, I read the question – and I
put what immediately comes to mind. I do
not overthink them – I answer them honestly and openly. My series of blog posts will focus on certain
questions that I believe get to the core of who I am – as a wife, mother, and a
child of God.
28. Who are your heroes in real life?
When I think about the word “hero”, I think about the people
I have looked up to over the years. I
think about the ways in which their examples – their words and their actions –
have impacted my life for the better. I
think about the lessons I have learned from them – the encouragement I have
received from them – and the love I have received from them.
In this day and age, two of my heroes are my parents. This year, they celebrate their 40th
wedding anniversary – a milestone that is almost unheard of today. They have weathered many a storm – they have
experienced many a joy – and they have emerged stronger and more in love than
ever before. They are the epitome of
“growing old” together – something that I pray that Bob and I are able to
experience in our later years. They
started off as friends, running around with the same group in college – today,
that friendship still remains. They have
built their marriage on the sure foundation of the Lord – I have watched them
seek His wisdom and guidance in each and every decision they make. They know where their hope comes from – and
they live it out in their daily lives. I
admire them for their strength – their perseverance – and their courage.
When I consider the characters of the Bible, Peter has to be
one of my true heroes. As I read his
story, I can see a great deal of myself in him.
He desired a strong relationship with the Lord – and believed in Him
fully. He made his share of mistakes –
he let his words get the best of him – but the Lord loved him just the
same. Peter denied the Lord three times
before the rooster crowed – and the Lord restored him as Peter proclaimed his
love for Him. Peter is a beautiful
picture of forgiveness – of faithfulness – and of love.
