Out Of My (Bank) Bondage!

There aren't many secular things more exciting than what happened to me several years ago at my bank! This is from May 15, 2011.
Yesterday AM was an errand morning. I needed a haircut and some groceries and I was almost out of checks. The haircut and the groceries were a predictably smooth operation so that left the checks. As I entered my neighborhood CHASE Bank, I was greeted by the branch manager who greeted me and asked how they could be of service. I relayed the purpose of my visit and he directed me to a nice young lady who has waited on me before. As she processed my order, I asked the number of checks per box and the cost for the order. She told me there are 120 checks per box BUT the checks were free! Apparently, it is a perk of my account left over from the days when CHASE was Washington Mutual. In that case, I told her, make it two boxes! The wonderful lady was more than happy to oblige. You see, I have skimped on checks for years because I thought I had to pay for them.... and I didn't. Not only that, when she checked on my checking and savings account balances, she told me I had $36.02 in a dormant account and upon my request, closed the account and gave me the $36.02 I did not realize was mine. Wouldn't it be great if every trip to the bank was as profitable as this one was for me? I was practically giddy all day.

You know, all the cash I have to my name is in that branch of CHASE Bank and yet how little did I realize what was at my disposal. There have been benefits to my belonging to that institution but I was oblivious to what I could have taken advantage of. These were no secret and just a little investigation would have shown me what I found out almost by accident. Do you ever feel your spiritual life is like that? There are blessings and assets we can claim as believers but we don't dig into the Word or prayer enough to discover them. We skim by on the surface while such a richer life is ours as our birthright . It's funny- I rejoiced about the free checks which have very little bearing on my financial security. ( I also never fill the car up with gas unless I'm traveling. I mean, I could get killed and all that fuel is wasted!) Shouldn't I rejoice about the blessings which the Lord promises when our priority is the kingdom? My treasure should be accumulating in heaven, anyway, instead of  in a bank in Houston, Texas. Someday, I'll have to give an accounting of my life and on that day, I don't think the free checks will come into play. Still, we're told in James that all perfect gifts come down from heaven so I can only finish with one word as I reflect on CHASE Bank and the checks and my salvation: THANKS!

Applicable quote of the day:
"Drive-in banks were established so most of the cars today could see their real owners."

Oh, those are some very good thoughts. Yes, I think we all do that to some extent!

And how wonderful that you had a happy experience at the bank! :)

Oh, you're right...there was more! :)

I think the free checks were just a little blessing...nothing is too small for God not to notice.

Pretty unusual for anyone to like their bank. I'm happy for you.

Also somewhat unusual for most folks to stop and think what their Christian "savings account" fully means to them.

Great post---thanks!

Thanks for the wonderful blog.Customized checks are the most recent trend
and most most popular by shoppers these days. Checking account holders are now able to order checks at cheaper costs.
