On The Wings Of A Dove

Two weeks ago, our WCS faculty drove to Abilene for the Texas Christan School Association in-service. We assembled for two days of get-togethers with teachers from sister schools, to learn new teaching strategies and to re-charge our educational batteries. One session I attended was entitled The Sexualization of Secondary Schools. The presenter, a professor at Abilene Christian University, did an excellent job of painting the picture that is adolescence today. One thing she used was the Dove Soap film that is linked below. I had my students watch it and answer two questions:A. What point were they trying to make?
B. Were they effective? Why or why not?

I was being silly with my eighth graders as we discussed the short clip and I started singing, off key, Whose That Lady? Amazingly, all of them began to sing along which shocked me because the Isley Brother's hit came out in 1973. I asked how they knew it and they all said, 'The Swiffer commercial!' That is the definition of a great marketing ploy: they remembered the song, the commercial, and the product. Please take a minute to watch the clip below and tomorrow, I will post of my students' comments on the Dove film.
