To many, the most memorable participant in the opening Olympic ceremonies last night was the nine year old boy who accompanied Yao Ming as he led the Chinese team into the Bejing stadium. Lin Hao, after escaping from the rubble of his school after the earthquake of last spring killed twenty of his thirty classmates, went back and rescued several of his surviving friends. His simple explanation was that he was a hall monitor and it was his responsibility to look out for the others. What a great example to us of sacrifice and duty to our fellow man! These are several children I met one week ago today at the Emperor's Tomb in Shenyang. I am convinced there are heroic quzlities in so many if we take the opportunity to do the good that the Lord sets before us.
Applicable quote of the day:
"I believe it is the nature of people to be heroes, given the chance."
