Accident Prone Right Here! (Trina Agee Cornell)

Trina is one of my heroes! We have been on many mission trips together in Honduras and I've grown to love and admire her. She's such a wonderful example, WCS has tried several times to persuade her to teach for us. Trina and her husband Bob live in St. Louis and are expecting their first child!  Pray for me as I recover from my mission in Vietnam!

So, this happened.
I have been known for injuring myself in the wackiest ways.  There was a time when I used a manual can opener to open cans of vegetables and soup for dinner.  Unfortunately, the opener would create a sharp edge on the top - and as I would lift it, it would slice three or four of my fingers wide open.  I would wear Band-Aids on all of them until they healed - and then it would happen all over again with the next can.  Thankfully, Loren bought me a can opener for Christmas that year - the best gift ever!
What you see here is not the result of a can opening accident.  Saturday night, I helped out by washing the big dishes we had used for our party.  I finished all of the glass Pyrex bowls and dishes until there was one left - a Pampered Chef stoneware.  I found the little scraper and proceeded to clean it top to bottom.  As I turned it over to rinse off the back, the stoneware completely shattered in my hand!  The pieces fell to the sink - but not before slicing up my right hand.  Two minor scrapes, a cut in the crease of my pinkie - and a chunk, hanging on for dear life, on my middle finger.  It took me 15 minutes to stop the bleeding before we could doctor it up!  I've cut myself before, but this one is a doozy!
As a result of these injuries, I now have to have these Band-Aids on my fingers for the foreseeable future.  I can't take them off to shower and get ready - so I wear a latex glove on my right hand to wash my hair in the mornings.  This will not be a quick fix - it is going to take a while before the tip of my middle finger will see the light of day!
When we injure ourselves, we have to give our bodies time to heal.  We have to let our bodies do their things - and get themselves back to homeostasis.  The same is true for our hearts – when we sin and make mistakes, our hearts take the brunt of the force, leaving open wounds.  When this happens, our hearts need time to heal – to ask for forgiveness – and let the Lord work on it.  King Solomon penned these words in the book of Proverbs:  “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”.  Take care of your heart – it is worth it.
God bless,
Steve
